Physalis Varieties include many species such as Cape gooseberry (Physalis peruviana), Aunt Molly Ground Cherry (P. pruinosa), Cossack Pineapple Ground Cherry (Physalis pubescens) and the Tomatillo (P.philadelphica & P.ixocarpa).
Physalis is a genus of around 80 species of annual or perennial fruiting plants.The genus is noted for the inflated bag-like calyx, which encloses a fleshy berry similar to a tomato. These versatile berries can be eaten raw, cooked, or in the form of jams or jellies.
