Lemon Basil offers a different scent – pure, clean, citrus-lemon, and it’s easily grown from seed. It is botanically known as Ocimum citriodorum and sometimes classified as Ocimum x africanum or O. americanum var. pilosum.
Basil is an indispensable flavoring, and it’s used around the world.
Culinary Uses
- Pick the leaves and use them fresh or dried in herb vinegars and with chicken, fish, vegetables and soups.
- The aroma and lemon flavor is pure, clean, and crisp, and it works wonderfully in sauces.
Growing Lemon Basil
Indoor Sowing: Late Winter and Early Spring.
Direct Sowing: Spring and Summer.
- Sow indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost in spring
- Sow Basil Seeds evenly by covering them with 0.5 cm of soil.
- Keep the soil moist.
- The basil seeds should germinate within a week.
