Bishops Crown Pepper Seeds. The Bishops Crown Pepper is an amazing chilli from Barbados. The Bishop’s Crown Pepper is named for its distinct shape resembling a Bishop’s Crown. This variety has many names: Bishop’s Cap, Joker’s Hat, Friar’s Hat, Orchid, Christmas Bell, Balloon Pepper, Pimenta Cambuci, Campane, Ubatuba Cambuci and Aji Flor.
It is a large plant with green stems, green leaves and white flowers – growing up to 1m in height. It produces 30 to 50 peculiar, three or four flat-winged, wrinkled pods. These peppers grow to about 4 cm in width. The flesh inside each pepper is thin, yet crisp. They mature to red from a pale green colour about 90-100 days after the seedlings emerge. The body of the peppers have very little heat, with the wings being sweet and mild. 5000 – 15000 on the Scoville heat scale.

Growing Bishops Crown Pepper
- Bishops Crown Pepper Seeds should be started indoors 8 weeks prior to transplanting.
- To start seed indoors, sow 2-3 seeds 1⁄4 inches deep, in 1×1 inch cells and provide constant moisture and a soil temperature of 26-29 degrees C.
- Germination takes 1 – 2 weeks.
- After germination thin seedlings to one per cell.
- Once seedlings develop 2-3 true leaves, transplant into larger containers
- At transplanting time, set transplants 18 inches apart in rows 30 inches apart.
