The Red Brazilian Starfish Pepper (C. Baccatum) is a much sought after variety of chili and a very unusual variety due to its uniquely shaped peppers. The baccatum pepper species originated in Peru, but this variety was domesticated in Brazil. The plant has an almost weeping growth habit and is very productive, yielding 5cm wide starfish-shaped peppers. The white flowers of this plant have the distinctive Baccatum greenish-yellow markings. The peppers mature from green to red. A sweet, fruity flavor with a mild heat of 10,000 to 30,000 Scoville heat units.
