The Sparkler radish has a classic radish appearance. Roots are globe shaped, uniform and have a silky smooth shoulder and a refined taproot. The skin’s coloring is two-toned with the top of the roots near the plant’s leaves a deep scarlet red and the bottom half, creamy white. The Sparkler radish’s flesh is translucent white, crisp yet tender. Its flavor is mild and earthy with a subtle sweetness.
Growing Sparkler Radish
Indoor Sowing: Not Recommended.
Direct Sowing: Spring and Autumn.
- Radish seeds can be planted in both the spring and autumn and not in the height of summer, when temperatures are typically too hot.
- For a spring planting, sow seeds 4–6 weeks before the average date of last frost.
- It’s best to plant radish seeds directly in the garden so as not to disturb their roots.
- Directly sow seeds outdoors 1cm deep and 2 – 3cm apart.
- Plant another round of seeds every 10 days or so for a continuous harvest of radishes in the late spring and early summer.
- Consistent, even moisture is key. Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
