Sugar Baby Watermelon is well-suited for both home gardeners and the small market grower. Round, dark green exterior, and deep Valentine red, very sweet and very juicy melt-in-your-mouth flesh. Not seedless, but then, you’ll want to save this seed for next year!
Holds well in the fridge – even once cut. You’ll get 4-6 melons that are about 25cm across on 1,8m vines. 80 days.
Growing Sugar Baby Watermelon from Seed
Indoor Sowing: Late Winter / Early Spring.
Direct Sowing: Spring and Early Summer.
- You can sow the seeds from the beginning of Spring to the beginning of Summer.
- Watermelons grow best on sandy loam soils, with good drainage and a soil pH of between 6.0 and 6.8.
- Soil temperature should be at least 18°C for germination to take place.
- Seeds should be sown in an area that gets full sun.
- Direct sow the seeds 2.5cm deep and 50 – 75cm apart, in soil mounds or ridges.
