The Black Pearl Chilli Pepper (Capsicum annuum ‘Black Pearl’) is an Ornamental and hot edible pepper. The peppers grow upright and are small and round or slightly tapered with thin walls it is a medium to high heat and ranges from 10,000 to more than 30,000 Scoville units.
The peppers turn from black to red when mature. The Black Pearl plant has black leaves, black stems, and white flowers. Taste these peppers cautiously first, as some are exceptionally hot, this chilli can be pickled to add heat to marinades, salsas and soup dishes. The plant is one of the most beautiful chilli varieties.
Growing Black Pearl Chilli Pepper
- Black Pearl Pepper Seeds should be started indoors 8 weeks prior to transplanting.
- To start seed indoors, sow 2-3 seeds 1⁄4 inches deep, in 1×1 inch cells and provide constant moisture and a soil temperature of 26-29 degrees C.
- Germination takes 1 – 2 weeks.
- After germination thin seedlings to one per cell.
- Once seedlings develop 2-3 true leaves, transplant into larger containers
- At transplanting time, set transplants 18 inches apart in rows 30 inches apart.
- Black Pearl is exceptionally heat-tolerant and requires minimal water and fertilizer.
