Sold as 2 European Black Elderberry Cuttings. The European Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) grows significantly taller than the American Elderberry variety. This perennial plant has both culinary and medicinal uses. The leaves, flowers, fruits and root extracts are used to treat bronchitis, coughs, upper respiratory infections and fever.
Planting the European Black Elderberry Cuttings
- Fill a container with sandy soil.
- Insert the cuttings into the soil.
- Keep the soil consistently moist, but not overly wet.
- Place the container in a warm, shady area.
- Once the cuttings take root, you will see new growth forming.
- Another method is to root the cuttings in water. Place the cuttings in a container. Add water up to about a third of the cutting’s height. Place the container in a partially shaded area. Refill with water as needed. Once the roots are well developed, transplant into individual pots.
