Lucullus Spinach Beet is chard type spinach with white spines and dark green leaves.Light-stalked Italian heirloom variety which produces wonderful, heavily crumpled green leaves with light green/white mid-rib and veins. Lucullus is particularly heat and cold tolerant. Mild and sweet, savoyed leaves top pale ivory celery-like stalks. Heavily crumpled with wide, broad white ribs about 50cm tall. Tolerates hot weather and grows until first frost. Heavy producing plant with good flavor.
Growing Lucullus Spinach Beet
- Sow seeds in average soil in full sun as soon as ground can be worked or start the seeds indoors and transplant later.
- Sow about 6 inches apart and cover with ½ inch fine soil.
- Firm lightly and keep evenly moist.
- Seedlings emerge in 7-14 days.
- Thin stand to about 12 inches apart when seedlings are 1-2 inches tall.
