Sold as 1 single Greater Galangal Plant. It is a tropical evergreen perennial plant in the ginger family, with a thick aromatic rhizome. It is used as an herb in Unani medicine and as a spice in Arab cuisine and Southeast Asian cooking. The rhizome has a pungent smell and strong taste reminiscent of citrus, black pepper and pine needles. It is commonly known as Siamese ginger, Thai ginger or galangal.
The plant grows from rhizomes in clumps of stiff stalks up to 2m in height. Foliage is attractive and plants may be grown as an ornamental, without harvesting the rhizome. Plants are evergreen when grown in frost-free locations. Greater Galangal Plant is best suited for growing in shade or partial shade in warm climates. As it is a tropical plant, it is sensitive to frost and drought conditions. Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. If the soil is too wet, the rhizomes may rot and die. Can be grown in big containers.
