Lemon Basil offers a different scent – pure, clean, citrus-lemon, and it’s easily grown from seed. It is botanically known as Ocimum citriodorum and sometimes classified as Ocimum x africanum or O. americanum var. pilosum. It is a hybrid species, not a single cultivar, and different varieties have been developed in various regions, including Africa, India, Southeast Asia (like Thailand and Vietnam), and the United States.
Basil is an indispensable flavoring, and it’s used around the world.

Growing Lemon Basil
Indoor Sowing: Late Winter and Early Spring.
Direct Sowing: Spring and Summer.
- Sow indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost in spring >
- Sow Basil Seeds evenly by covering them with 0.5 cm of soil.
- Keep the soil moist.
- The basil seeds should germinate within a week.
