Dragon Fruit Yellow (Selenicereus megalanthus) is well known for it’s sweet tasting fruit. This cactus originates from Bolivia, Equador, Peru and Columbia. The fruit is popular eaten chilled, out of hand. It is also used to flavor drinks and pastries.
The fruit has thorns, unlike the red dragon fruits such as S. undatus and S. monacanthus. The seeds of this dragon fruit is also much bigger than the seeds of the red or pink dragon fruit varieties. It is commonly known as “yellow dragon fruit”, “yellow pitahaya”, “kirin fruit”, or “yellow pitaya”.

Growing Dragon Fruit Yellow
Indoor Sowing: Spring and Summer.
Direct Sowing: Spring and Summer.
- Fill a cup or small pot with sterile seed starter or cactus soil mix.
- Moisten the soil but avoid saturating it with water.
- Use a spoon to mix the Dragon Fruit Seeds into the top quarter inch of soil.
- Mist if needed to ensure this layer is moist and then cover with a plastic sandwich bag or clear food wrap. The cover will retain moisture and warmth.
- Keep the soil moist until seeds germinate, which will take around 15 to 30 days.
- After the seeds germinate, uncover the plastic and transplant them to bigger pots when necessary.
