Sold as 2 Vick’s Plant cuttings. Vick’s Plant (Plectranthus grandidentatus) is a trailing, soft, semi-succulent, herbaceous perennial, 300–600 mm tall, with stems that grow horizontally, supported by the ground. It has soft, green leaves with large, serrated margins and velvety hairs. The plant produces masses of small, white flowers, primarily from late summer to autumn. The leaves have a Vick’s like aroma and the plant is widely known as a natural mosquito repellent and used in traditional remedies for clearing nasal passages.
Planting Vick’s Plant Cuttings
- The cuttings can be rooted in water or in soil.
- To root the cuttings in soil, dip the cut end in rooting hormone (optional) and plant directly into a pot with moist, well-draining potting soil (mixed with perlite or succulent mix).
- To root the cuttings in water, place the cutting in a glass of water, ensuring the cut stem is submerged but no leaves are in the water. Replace the water regularly to prevent decay.
- Place the container in a warm area with bright, indirect sunlight.
- If rooted in water, transplant to soil once roots are a few cm long.
- If planted in soil, keep the soil lightly moist until roots are established, then allow it to dry out between waterings.
