Celery Tall Utah (Apium graveolens var. dulce) is an heirloom variety grown since 1953. It has medium-dark green stringless stalks with compact hearts that have great flavour and are disease resistant. One of the most popular and dependable varieties. Dark green stalks and foliage growing to 70cm. The plant can be used raw or cooked. Leaves are used as a flavouring, fresh or dried. Ideal in salads, soups, stews and as a cooked vegetable. The plant has good disease tolerance.

Growing Celery Tall  Utah

Indoor Sowing: Mid Winter.

Direct Sowing: Early Spring.

• Use a good-quality seed starting mix.
• Moisten the soil, firm down gently and level it out.
• Surface sow the seeds and barely cover with soil, as the seeds need light to germinate.
• Water from below and ensure the soil stays moist but not soggy.
• Optimal germination temperature is about 15°C.
• Germination takes place 3 – 4 weeks after sowing.
• Transplant to cropping position at 2-4 leaf stage, spacing 25cm apart in blocks.
• Plant celery in moisture-retentive soil and keep it well-watered and fed to aid quick growth.
• Remove any side shoots forming at base of plant.
• To harvest, cut celery at ground level.
